Although if you want to pick and choose, the first announcement also said
"We’ll send another email on Thursday evening to open up registrations for
everyone.".
Not so subtly, the point is that this was poorly executed on several levels.
For one, it doesn't make sense to hold an event that's touting inclusion
whilst also being highly exclusive. I do hope it's handled differently next
year. Perhaps some sponsored positions to even the gap?
